CertiPUR is a voluntary standard to advance the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) performance of flexible polyurethane foams used in bedding and upholstered furniture. The scheme takes into account existing standards and scientific studies related to emanations from foams, product criteria and risk assessments.

Only manufacturers who comply with all the requirements will be allowed to use the label. CertiPUR is transparent and far ranging as well as clear and objective.

It prohibits by declaration or restricts by measurements the use of certain substances that either may be used to make foams or that can be found in the final product.

Compliance is subject to audit by an independent laboratory and satisfactory results of random spot checks.

CertiPUR is an initiative of EUROPUR, the association representing manufacturers of flexible slabstock polyurethane foam in Europe. Although other standards exist, CertiPUR is the only scheme that is specifically designed for these products.
